Knowing the requirements of registration
as a Nurse and other pre-requisites:
It is essential for any Nurse to be registered with
the Australian Nursing Council or the local Nursing
council of the state or territory they intend to work
in.
As the requirements of different Nursing bodies may
vary, hence it is essential to know where a nurse stands
and whether any additional qualification is required
to obtain the registration.
Nurses need to apporoach Australian Nursing Council
or other state/territory nursing boards in Australia
where they intend to work. In addition to Australian
Nursing Council, there are eight nursing registration
bodies for various state and territories in Australia.
Each of these bodies have their own guidelines/requirements
for the registration of the nurses.
Initially, it may seem a complex
procedure for a nurse to follow. Generally speaking,
in addition to the other requirements, a nurse can expect
to complete a 'Competency Based Assessment Program'
and a clinical/practical component of the assessment
program.
The initial registration process can easily be devided
in four easy steps.
1. Completing the Competency
Based Assessment Program. Full assistance and guidance

2. Attaining the required proficiency

3. After completing the first
two steps, the third step in the ladder is to complete
the Clinical/practical component of the assessment
program. This is carrried out in Australia and arrangements
in this regard are made and the Nurses are looked

4. Once, the three steps are
completed, apply for registration to practice in Australia
as a Nurse.
English Language:
Please note that you are required to prove your proficiency
in English language before you can apply for registration.
You may prove your proficiency in English Language through;
Occupational English Test - you are required to score
B Pass or higher in all the four sections of the Occupational
English Test.
IELTS Test - You are required to score at least 6.5
in each of the four bands and an overal score of 7.0
or higher
The nurses will also be required to satisfy the health
requirements specified in the Migration Regulations
before they can be enter in Australia. Once these requirements
are met, you may start working as a registered Nurse
in Australia.
